Abstract
With a long history and a solid foundation, the study of Chinese literary genres has long been at the centre of literary scholarship. However, under the impact of Western scholarship in the late Qing and Republican periods, this tradition of genre studies was gradually overshadowed and marginalized. It was not until the 1980s that it began to recover and rapidly developed into the most academic frontier with great academic growth and attention. In terms of the overall research pattern, scholars have paid more attention to the forms and history of genres, therebygivingrisetorich achievements. However, the discussion of its concepts and theories are relatively weak. It is important to summarize and reflect on the theoretical research on genre studies over the past century in order to promote the further development of Chinese genre studies and build a literary theoretical discourse system with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
