Abstract
Thecomputer writing experiment can be traced back to the European avant-garde movement in the early 20thcentury. It has been developed in the tradition ofthe avant-garde, and constantly incorporatednew technologies. With the rapid advancement in digital technology since 1990s, intelligentwriting experiment hasalso shown some new features. On the one hand, originality has been diminishing due to open source code, and there are more and more collective writing projects making use of shared sources. On the other hand, interactivity is highlighted and in many new works, the traditional relationship between readers and writers issubverted. Through inheriting and reforming the avant-garde tradition, intelligent writing experiment enters a “post-avant-garde” state, in which the function of digital technology is emphasized to create, in the digital context, new languages of artistic expression as well as a new structure of perception and sensibility, while the “signal-noise ratio” in the works is significantly reduced. This poses a strang challenge to the mainstream commercialized aesthetics and unfolds the intervening impact of digital technology on literary production.
