Abstract
The relationship between early Chinese cinematicconcepts and German films is under-researched. During the middle and late 1920s, an important period in the early development history of Chinese film, American films almost monopolized Chinese film industry, however, German films still madeits way into Chinese minds with their profound intellectuality and artistry. Chinese audience perceived the realistic and expressionist aesthetic styles, the true description of social life and people’s inner feelings, the strong national character and humanistic connotations, and the profound literariness and the novel and exquisite cinematography of German films, and imbibed them into the construction of a modern Chinese national cinema.
