Abstract
Literary aesthetic theory in China has been constantly expanded and constructed with modernity spirit, primarily aiming at the independence of literature that emphasizes aesthetic characteristics and artistic principles, so that literary aesthetics and emotion representation may be integrated into the aesthetics of emotions or of the aesthetics of life. Literary aesthetic theory develops upon the tradition of modernity with a focal shift from aesthetic characteristics to aesthetic essence. Thus, literary aesthetics becomes more self-conscious, with literary independence and self-discipline taking on new pertinence, the understanding of literature's aesthetic characteristics and artistic principles is more profound and systemized, and theoretical connotations are richer and yield to deeper dialectical thinking and interpretation. The construction of “contemporaneity” involves the avoidance of the postmodern pitfalls such as “de-literarization” and “de-aestheticization” so that literary value and the spirit of literary aesthetics can be rebuilt and preserved while integrating the achievements of the expansion of modernity on literary aesthetics so that aesthetic value of literature can be emphasized.
