Abstract
The term "Fangweng Style" was first used in The Metrical Marrow of the Hall of the Literary Notables, in order to describe the style of Lu You's poetic creations. Today, the prevalent definition of the "Fangweng Style" is focused on its patriotic themes and magnificent artistic conceptions. In fact, the connotations of "Fangweng Style" varied during different periods. During the Ming and Qing periods, it featured the subject matter of daily life, with a smooth and fresh style. With a preference for suite of poems, Ming and Qing literati emphasized the demonstration of their leisure attitude. Therefore, definitions of the "Fangweng Style" were related to the variegated aesthetic ideas, poetic views, and political intervention as embodied through the changing principle on the selection of Lu You's poems. The restructuring of the "Fangweng Style" essentially results from literati's different perceptions of poetry during different periods.
