Abstract
The paper maintains that the emergence of aesthetic reflection theory in China was largely the contribution of Prof. Xu Zhongyu as the result of his respect to and explorations into the artistic law of literary creation. Prof. Xu first incorporated the notion that "literature is the study of man" into the literary theory course books in China and demonstrated the profound interconnection between literature, humanity and humanitarianism. He also stressed the unique greatness of Chinese literature and anticipated the advent of "the paragon of the writing in the world". Prof. Xu devoted himself to the establishment of modern and contemporary Chinese literary theory.
