Abstract
The author interviewed Professor Stephen Owen regarding The Cambridge History of Chinese Literature. The issues covered in the interview include the origins of the Western literary history and Chinese literary history, the stages and modes of writing Chinese literary histories,the interrelationships between literary historiography and intellectual history, and the new perspectives of literary historiography. The interview focuses on the new notions of "the Cultural Tang" and "discursive communities" proposed by Owen and elaborates their theoretical and methodological implications.
